About the 4A’s

The 4A’s, founded in 1917, is the leading authority representing the marketing communications agency business. It provides leadership, advocacy and training that empower agencies to innovate, evolve and grow. It serves 740 member agencies across 1,400 offices that control more than 85 percent of total U.S. advertising spending. 

CATEGORIES

Partners may be defined as creative agencies, media agencies, digital agencies, social agencies, production companies, PR firms, design studios and other companies providing creative, media and tech services to brand marketers and other organizations. Eligible partnerships can be comprised of two or more organizations, companies, or agencies.

BRAND PARTNERSHIPS

Entries in this category recognize the collaboration between partners and brands to produce work that fundamentally benefited from the partnership. The partnership must go beyond a standard client/vendor relationship to demonstrate true collaboration. The entry must show that creative ideas and execution was uniquely achieved as a result of the partnership.

CREATIVE PARTNERSHIPS

Entries in this category must demonstrate that creative ideas and execution have been elevated as a result of the partnership. It recognizes the collaboration between two or more partners that go beyond project coordination to yield a creative solution that could only have come to life through, or benefited from, the partnership.

MEDIA PARTNERSHIPS

Entries in this category recognize the collaboration between partners and media agencies or companies. The partnership must go beyond the matching of creative ideas to smart media planning. The entry must demonstrate that creative ideas and execution was uniquely achieved or benefited from the  specific partnership.

TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIPS

Entries in this category recognize the collaboration between partners and technology companies. The partnership must go beyond the simple use of technology to execute a creative idea. It is not required that the use of technology be new, or first-of-its-kind, however the entry must demonstrate how the work benefited from the technology  to elevate the creative concept.

DIVERSITY PARTNERSHIPS

Entries in this category recognize the collaboration between partners and organizations that promote inclusion and diversity. The partnership must address social and/or multicultural topics, and create positive influence on the perception of diverse groups or groups that have experienced discrimination, such as LGBTQ, bullied teens, and minorities. The entry must resonate beyond the represented group and demonstrate that the creative concept was elevated as a result of the collaboration.

CAUSE PARTNERSHIPS

Entries in this category recognize the collaboration between partners and cause-related organizations. The entry must demonstrate that creative ideas and execution have been elevated as a result of the partnership. Work produced on a volunteer basis should be entered in the Pro Bono Partnerships category.

PRO BONO PARTNERSHIPS

Entries in this category recognize the collaboration between partners and organizations that worked together under a volunteer agreement. The entry must demonstrate that creative ideas and execution have been elevated as a result of the partnership(s).

HEALTH & WELLNESS PARTNERSHIPS

Entries in this category recognize the collaboration between partners and organizations that promote Health & Wellness. This category may include work, from across health and wellness dimensions, including physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual. Entries may include, and not limited to work designed to promote lifestyle, OTC, medical and bio-medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or holistic health. Each entry must demonstrate that the creative idea and execution has been elevated as a result of the partnership.

SPECIAL AWARD — PARTNERSHIP OF THE YEAR

Jury members will have the opportunity to select one “Partnership of the Year” Award from ALL the chosen winners in the above categories.

ENTRY GUIDELINES AND FAQ

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The 4A’s Partner Awards recognizes great creative partnerships.

EACH ENTRY MUST INCLUDE

  • Video of the work, or one 2 to 3-minute video showcasing the work and the partnership. A custom case study is not required but is helpful for judges to understand the merits of the partnership.
  • A summary (300 words or less) explaining how the work was uniquely created or benefited by the partnership(s), and results achieved.
  • The full name of each partner company and a short description (100 words or less) of each partner’s role and contribution

NOTE: In the event that your work wins, you will need to provide a 1 minute edited version of your video for presentation at the Awards ceremony in April. You can include this video edit with your entry, if you’d like, along with the required video of the work or a 2 to 3-minute case study.

VIDEO SPECS (NO CUSTOM VIDEO REQUIRED)

  • Digital video(s) must be uploaded through the 4A’s Partner Awards entry website.
  • Finalists’ and winners’ videos will be shown in a public venue, so please ensure that all rights have been cleared.
  • Resolution 640 x 480 pixels (minimum)
  • File type .mov, .mp4 and .wmv
  • Compression h264
  • Sound AAC 44khz
  • File size up to 60 MB

WINNING ENTRIES

If the entry should win, the entering agency will be recognized as the winner and receive a statue. All partner companies will be able to purchase duplicate statues.

ENTRY TYPES

We want to ensure that agencies of all sizes are equally represented and that work that may be limited in size and scope does not get overshadowed by larger spending campaigns.

  • Small Agency: fewer than 100 full-time employees
  • Mid-Sized Agency: 100 to 300 full-time employees
  • Large Agency: more than 300 full-time employees

NOTE: Partners may be defined as creative agencies, media agencies, digital agencies, social agencies, production companies, PR firms, design studios and other companies providing creative, media and tech services to brand marketers and other organizations. Eligible partnerships can be comprised of two or more organizations, companies, or agencies.

ELIGIBILITY PERIOD

Entries including work that first appeared in public between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017 are eligible for entry into the 2018 4A’s Partner Awards.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY

In order to enter the 4A’s Partner Awards, entries must be submitted by U.S.-based agencies with the permission of the brand (client) and/or owner of the rights of the work. All entries must have been created for a paying client unless the work is pro bono and entered in the Pro Bono category. The 4A’s Partner Awards retains the rights to disqualify any entries that may be deemed offensive.

FAQs

WHO CAN ENTER? 
All U.S.-based agencies and companies that engage in partnerships to produce creative work can enter.

HOW DO YOU DEFINE A PARTNER?
Partners may be defined as creative agencies, media agencies, digital agencies, social agencies, production companies, PR firms, design studios and other companies providing creative, media and tech services to brand marketers and other organizations. Eligible partnerships can be comprised of two or more separate organizations, companies or agencies.

WHAT TYPE OF WORK CAN BE ENTERED?
The definition of work is broad. Entries can include traditional and non-traditional executions, including print or outdoor, broadcast, digital, PR, branded content, design, experiential, or a combination of execution types.

WHAT ARE THE JUDGES LOOKING FOR?
The judges are looking for exemplary partner collaborations that resulted in, or fundamentally benefited, a creative execution or campaign. The entries will be judged on the merits of creativity, the contributions of each partner, and the results.

WHAT DO WE ENTER? 
An entry must include:

  • The only video required is the video showcasing the work, though many agencies do provide complete case studies. Winning agencies will be required to submit a 1-minute video for the awards presentation.
  • A summary (300 words or less) explaining how the work was uniquely created or benefited by the partnership(s), and results achieved.
  • The full name of each partner company and a short description (100 words or less) of each partner’s role and contribution.

CAN I ENTER MORE THAN ONE PARTNERSHIP? 
Yes. You can enter as many partnerships, in as many categories, for as many campaigns as you choose. However, each one must be entered separately.

CAN I INCLUDE MORE THAN ONE CREATIVE EXAMPLE IN A SINGLE ENTRY?
Yes. If your partnership resulted in numerous creative expressions, you can include them in your video. You also have the ability to include a limited number of other visual assets, such PDFs and photos, but please be sure to note these in your written entry, as they are not standard or required.

I’M NOT SURE WHICH CATEGORY I SHOULD ENTER. WHAT DO I DO? 
The appropriate category for a submission is best determined by the entrant, with consideration given to the partnership they most want to highlight. If you feel that your entry strongly depicts the strength of many partnerships, you may enter it in more than one category. However, judges may decide that an entry fits better in a different category and move it.

IS IT POSSIBLE FOR A SINGLE ENTRY TO BE ENTERED IN MORE THAN ONE CATEGORY? 
Yes. For example, if you believe that your entry shows equal strength in the Brand Partnership, Media Partnership and Technology Partnership, you can enter it in all three categories. Each entry, however, is considered a separate entry, with a separate entry fee.

DO WE HAVE TO BE A 4A’S MEMBER TO ENTER THE 4A’S PARTNER AWARDS? 
No. The 4A’s Partner Awards are open to everyone, regardless of 4A’s membership.
