PPMA is delighted to announce the formal launch of the Annual Excellence in People Management 2018 Awards. We are thrilled to be working in partnership with The Guardian on this. Last year’s programme of awards was a great success, in large part to the generosity and commitment of the Guardian team.
As with previous years our awards programme is an important opportunity for us to celebrate the best about our work and say thank you and well done to our colleagues who continue to operate in increasingly challenging circumstances.
We are immensely proud of all of the contribution made by HR and OD professionals across all Public Services and we welcome submissions from LG, Health, Civil Service and 3rd Sector organisations – this can include partnerships with Private Sector companies.
We surveyed our judges, entrants and PPMA colleagues last year about the 2017 awards experience. Based on that we have made some slight changes this year. We are incorporating the successful Peer of the Year award into this programme and we have added in a best Creative award category. The Peer of the Year award is only open to those individuals on the Peer programme.
For all the awards, the judges will be looking for clarity of objectives, a degree of creativity and innovation and evidence that excellence and a real demonstrable impact has been achieved. Like last year, we are making all the judging criteria available at the start of the programme.
By entering, you have the opportunity to nationally showcase your hard work and achievements, and to share best practice, your findings and your dedication with colleagues across the UK.
As always, we have a distinguished panel of judges from across local government, central government, the NHS, sponsors and partners from the private sector – all leading figures and experts in their field.
We will be showcasing all the shortlisted entries on the PPMA website and we will be holding a shortlisting event in advance of our 2018 conference. That will be an early opportunity for celebration and recognition for all of our colleagues who entered.
CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES IS FRIDAY 5th JANUARY 2018. Please note that due to tight timescales there will be no extension to the deadline.
This year, there will be a £25+vat entry fee for every submission.
Awards Judging Event
Our judging event is being hosted by The Guardian again and Chaired by Stacey-Rebekka Karlsson, Head of Partnerships at The Guardian.
Following the closing date, entries will be issued to a panel of judges. These will be reviewed and scored against the published criteria in advance of the Judging Event on 31st January 2018.
At the event, all scores will be moderated and shortlists for each category agreed. These will be announced at a celebratory event on Wednesday 21st February 2018, again hosted by The Guardian.
We will be announcing our judges on Friday 27th October. Like last year, they represent some fantastic public and private sector organisations and bring a wealth of senior leadership experience to this judging process.
Our judges are incredibly busy and we are thrilled that they have agreed to take part in this year’s award process. It is a fantastic opportunity for all of you to have your work considered – even if you don’t win, you will learn a huge amount. We strongly encourage you to take part, whatever the stage in your career and which part of public service you work in. You’ll be showcasing your organisation, your work and yourselves to all of your colleagues too.

Awards Shortlisting Event
Our awards winners will be announced at our Annual Gala Dinner on Thursday 19th April 2018 in Newcastle-Gateshead.
Like last year too, we will be holding a shortlisting event to which our entrants will be invited. At the very least we can say a heartfelt THANK YOU for all the work you do day in and day out, helping our organisations succeed in really challenging circumstances.

The awards are our annual opportunity to celebrate and share the fantastic work going on every day in our organisations. We make no apologies for celebrating your success.
Working in Public Service is increasingly demanding and challenging but profoundly rewarding.
