The Asian Business Awards, which celebrate the successes of entrepreneurs from the community, are open for nominations ahead of the annual event in Spring 2018. Bigger and better than ever, the glittering ceremony will be held on Friday 23rd March in Central London.

The Asian Business Awards are now in their 21st year. The event is a celebration of Asian business excellence, acumen and achievement and it is where business leaders mix with powerful policy makers, business trendsetters and celebrities. Asians have contributed billions of pounds to the British economy.

More than 800 leading businessmen and women attended the awards earlier this year and Sadiq Khan, The Mayor of London was chief guest. Chief Guests have also included Theresa May when she was Home Secretary, HRH the Prince of Wales, Tony Blair when he was Prime Minister and former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

The 2018 Asian Rich List – a compilation of the 101 wealthiest Asians in Britain, highlighting exceptional entrepreneurial achievement over the last 12 months – will be launched at the gala awards dinner. This year’s Asian Rich List showed the total wealth of entrepreneurs reach a staggering £69.9 billion.

Asian Business of the Year

Awarded to an outstanding business with a proven track record of consistent commercial success. The business must show it has a vision for growth, strong leadership with professional management and talent development at all levels.

Asian Businesswoman of the Year Award

Awarded to an individual with recognise leadership ability and a proven track record of commercial success.

Healthcare Business Award

Awarded to a company that has shown entrepreneurial flair and contributed to the nation’s wellbeing.

Asian Business Restaurant Award 2018

Awarded to an establishment that has enhanced the dining and culinary experience and developed an outstanding business.

Entrepreneur Award

Awarded to an outstanding businessman or woman over the age of 35 who has shown flair, innovation and drive in developing a business

Food & Drink Business Award

Awarded to an individual or group involved in the manufacture, warehousing, distribution or sales of food and drink items.

Business Personality Award

Awarded to a business personality who stands out for the crowd and has shown a high level of commitment and enthusiasm in leading their business to success.

Care Home Operator Award

Presented to an outstanding care home operator, who has shown entrepreneurial flair in developing the business, installed strong leadership and management practices at all levels and offers exceptional care.

Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Awarded to an outstanding businessman or woman under the age of 35 who has shown flair, innovation and drive in developing a business.

Franchise Business Award 2018

Awarded to an outstanding business which has demonstrated innovation and sustained growth in a franchise business model.

Philanthropy Award 2018

Awarded to an outstanding philanthropist or charitable foundation which has had a positive and lasting impact for the public good.  Judges will look at the generosity, social impact and strategic longevity of the philanthropy.

Hotelier of the Year Award

Presented to an outstanding hotel operator who has shown entrepreneurial flair in developing the business, installed strong leadership and management practices at all levels and offers exceptional customer service.

Judges 2017

Amit Roy

Eastern Eye columnist

Amit Roy is one of the most experienced journalists to have covered the Asian community and writes an influential column in Eastern Eye. He has also worked as a foreign correspondent for the Daily Telegraph, the Daily Mail, The Sunday Times and the Sunday Telegraph.

Amit has covered wars all over the world, as well as the Iranian revolution. He has also written economic reports on India for the Daily Telegraph.

Baroness Verma

Baroness Verma served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for International Development from May 2015 until July 2016. She has been a Conservative member of the House of Lords since 2006 and previously served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for DECC.

Bhanu Choudhrie

Executive Director

Bhanu Choudhrie is a dynamic young entrepreneur, based in the UK.  Born in Delhi in 1978, he studied International Business and Marketing at the University of Boston in the US.

On completing his studies in 2001, Bhanu moved to London to become the Executive Director of C&C Alpha Group Ltd (CCAG), a UK-based holding company with a diverse range of investments within hospitality, healthcare, real estate, utilities, agriculture, aviation and cutting-edge technologies.

At CCAG, Bhanu unites companies and clients with their strategic goals, providing investment strategy and insight to assist individuals to incubate and grow their businesses maximising their business potential.  He advises and sources deals in emerging markets such as India, Russia and South-East Asia as well as guiding on potential markets and giving clarity on new markets.

Bhanu is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School having completed the HBS Owner/President Management Program in March 2016.

Lord Gadhia

Jitesh Gadhia has over 25 years investment banking experience, having held senior positions at Blackstone, Barclays Capital, ABN AMRO and Baring Brothers. He has been involved in a wide range of high profile M&A and capital raising transactions across developed and emerging markets, including some of the largest investment flows between UK and India. He was appointed to the House of Lords in August 2016.

Jitesh is currently a Board Member of UK Government Investments (UKGI) and UK Financial Investments (UKFI) which manages the public shareholdings in The Royal Bank of Scotland, Lloyds Banking Group and a significant portfolio of mortgage assets.   He is also a Board Member of BGL Group Limited which owns comparethemarket.com, the UK’s largest financial price comparison website.Jitesh graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Economics and attended the London Business School as a Sloan Fellow. He has served as a Trustee of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity and the National Endowment for Science, Technology & the Arts.

Jitesh is a Member of the UK-India CEO Forum, which was established by Prime Ministers David Cameron and Narendra Modi.

Nick Kounoupias

Nick Kounoupias is a solicitor and the general counsel of AMG. He is one of Britain’s leading experts in intellectual property (IP) and anti-piracy matters.

As founder and CEO of Kounoupias IP, an intellectual property consultancy, Nick provides guidance to businesses which want to understand and protect their intellectual property both within the UK and internationally.He is a regularly contributor to IP journals, books and also provides professional training on IP at seminars and webinars.

Among his several industry appointments, Nick has been founder and vice chairman of the Alliance for IP (previously the cross-industry Alliance against Counterfeiting and Piracy) , a board director of the Federation against Software Theft (FAST), Chief Legal Counsel to Anti-Copying in Design (“ACID”).

Nick was appointed a Liveryman of the Worshipful Guild of Furniture Makers and a Freeman of the City of London.

Kalpesh R Solanki

Managing Editor Asian Media & Marketing Group

Kalpesh is group managing editor of the Asian Media & Marketing Group (AMG). Kalpesh graduated with a law degree (LLB Hons) from Queen Mary College, London, and qualified as a barrister from the Inner Temple. Kalpesh is responsible for the strategy and growth of AMG operations over three continents USA, UK and India.

Shailesh R Solanki

Executive Editor Asian Media & Marketing Group

Shailesh is executive editor for AMG, he has over 25 years’ experience in journalism and oversees a raft of titles, including Asian Trader, Pharmacy Business, Asian Hospitality and AAHOA Lodging Business, as well as GG2, gg2.net, Eastern Eye and easterneye.eu

As economics graduate, he has chronicled the Asian community in the UK and the UK where the group publish from their base in Atlanta, Georgia.
